Parents & Carers

Our working practices

From the point of referral, we will work in partnership with local authorities, families (where safe and appropriate), carers, commissioners, stakeholders, and young people themselves to identify the most suitable package of care and support, so we are able to fully meet their individual needs and provide the best level of support.

Our service focuses on empowering the children and young people in our care to develop their social, emotional and functional skills and to live happy, safe lives whilst with us.  Our long term aim to to equip them with the skills, experience and knowledge needed to live happy, safe, fulfilled lives and give them the best chance they can have to live successfully as a young adult care leaver.

Team Teach

Within our homes we believe that a therapeutic approach to care and support is essential to enable a young person to develop and grow, learning how to manage their emotions and how past trauma can affect the way in which they manage these emotions.

To support this, all our staff are trained in trauma-informed practice and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.

The primary objective of the Team Teach training programme is to train care team to help young people to develop new responses to their environment that will assist them in their social and emotional development. Team Teach does this by training care team to:

  • Convey a sense of caring and protection to the individual young person while maintaining the dignity of both young person and care team member.
  • Apply principles, skills and techniques that are safe and effective methods of crisis prevention and management.
  • Focus on prevention, de-escalation, management and resolution of crisis.

The main emphasis being on de-escalation at every level. Team Teach provides an in depth understanding around the impact trauma has on behaviour, understanding these behaviours and what they may look like and the most affective responses to these.

The spirit, intent and philosophy of Team Teach is that crisis can be used as an opportunity for learning and development. Team Teach is based on the premise that care team are important influences in the lives of young people and how they relate to the young people in crisis will affect the outcomes.

The care team will ensure follow up work is done following any incident, rebuilding relationships and supporting the young person to put things right where necessary.

Our whole care team have an approach to behaviour management which seeks to minimise the need for physical intervention and maintain positive relationships.
